Depression, torture, radicalization, the threat of authoritarianism, the unyielding beauty of music, Swedish author David Lagercrantz’s book that is inspired by Sherlock Holmes is far more than a mere derivation; Lagercrantz has something to say and he says it exquisitely well, and yes, still with Holmesian cleverness. One of my favorite reads of the year.
