“It is true that we are weak and sick and quarrelsome, but if that is all we ever were, we would, millenniums ago, have disappeared from the face of the earth.” Steinbeck glorifies the beauty and attendant horror of choice in all that we are and can be. A fascinating, philosophically resonant and still relevant book. I was enthralled.
