
Antidepressants are not a miracle drug — although they certainly can seem like a miracle to someone in the throes of depression and suicidal ideation — but rather they return someone to being ordinarily well. Yet, for most of my life, they’ve been derided, including for being no better than “dummy pills.” Kramer’s book, while dense about the scientific literature, is nevertheless a patient-focused balm against the naysayers.
